Based on it's downhill equivelent 'Der Baron', the Baron is a lighter model in a narrower 2.3 size for aggressive trail riding and Freeride.
With an 'Apex' rubber elastomer in the critical sidewall area to prevent impact punctures and an open tread with split lugs which adapt to the trail surface more quickly, the Baron is already turning a few heads.
Singletrack magazine tested the top of the range Black Chili version and had the follwoing to say : "Rubber fiends rejoice! Here we have probably the best wet conditions, aggressive trail riding tyre around....is designed to cope with being ridden hard at speed on properly technical natural terrain. It also works a treat on the manmade surfaces of the trail centres...Overall: Could be the best wet conditioin UK trail tyre ever. Not cheap though!"
2012 sees a 2.3 UST version added to the range.
The Baron is also available in two cheaper formats, in wire and folding options and both of these tyres also come in below 1kg on the scales.
