ContiRoad Attack Direction?

The orientation of the ContiRoad Attack front has recently been revised. Conti Germany responded to feed-back from the UK and other markets about maximising the already incredible durability of the original front tread pattern. After the launch of the ContiSport Attack test riders commented on the fact that the reversed tread direction gave much more uniform wear across the tyres section and so the ContiRoad Attack front pattern was switched in late October 2006 to take advantage of this better wear characteristic. Some confusion exists because some European plants outside of Germany have a tread mould with small arrows at the edge of the tread near the sidewall, these arrows should be ignored. These moulds are being replaced. ContiRoad attack customers may be offered the same tyre with apparently two different directions of rotation. The tread pattern on both tyres is fine. Riders should be aware that all relevant and legally required information regarding speed rating and direction of rotation is moulded into the side-wall of the tyre, not the tread, so be sure your tyre is fitted in accordance with the directional arrow on the sidewall regardless of which way the pattern runs.

BMW goes on the "Attack"

BMW chooses Continental Road Attack as original equipment for the R1200RT

The Conti Road Attack has been winning new fans since its launch last year and has proved to be a truly impressive sports-touring tyre, impressive enough to convince BMW that their flagship tourer should be on Conti Road Attacks. BMW have an undoubted reputation for quality concerning their machines and this quality is expected in all areas of their motorcycle's construction and performance. The Conti Road Attack is the perfect compliment to this design philosophy and is further confirmation of the inherent quality Continental build into their tyres. Effective immediately, the Conti Road Attack will be OE equipment on all R1200RTs, and is the first OE contract for the new radial. The Road Attack was developed hand in hand with BMW and to achieve the contract was specifically tailored to the R1200RT performance requirements and compliments the R1200RT on every level, from its formidable grip and sure footed braking capabilities, to its balance and durability. The R1200RT Road Attack fitment is designated "C" and will be supplied as a 120/70 ZR17 (58W) front, and 180/55 ZR17 (73W) rear sections. The Road Attack has earned an impressive vote of confidence from BMW who have also extended homologation to fit the tyre to the R1100S, R1150R and K1200RS models. Continental is also original equipment supplier to BMW's GS range in the form of the "world conquering" TKC80 enduro tyre, which has recently completed an epic journey fitted to the bikes of Charley Boorman and Ewan Mcgregor in their "Long Way Round" television project. Continental is official partner to the FIFA World Cup, Germany 2006. For Further information please follow these links; www.conti-online.com www.contifanworld.com

Review from Two Wheels Only

"...pitched head to head against Bridgestone 020s, Metzeler Roadtec Z6 and Michelin Pilot Road... Conti claims it offers enough grip to satisfy the demands of 'proper' performance bike riders... fast unplanned direction changes on unfamiliar mountain switchbacks proved drama free... the following day on Conti's handling circuit the Road Attacks were superb... warm up time was minimal, grip superb and stability and precision of turn-in excellent... riding a Daytona 600 I almost forgot the Road Attacks were a sports touring tyre... on the wet handling circuit the Road Attack shod Fazer 1000 was superb with the front generating a huge amount of grip and the rear having to be ham fistedly abused with the throttle in order to get it to spin up... one other factor to tempt buyers: its price, you're looking at £150 per pair."

Review from Motorcycle Sport & Leisure

"...the Road Attack tyre benefits from a 12% larger footprint than its closest competitor which reduces stress on the tyre meaning a softer compound can be used... In my Yamaha report I complained about the bike's lack of surefootedness, and attributed that vagueness to its D252 tyres. Thankfully this point was quickly confirmed by the noticeably more grip and feedback the Contis provided, a factor that improved the machine considerably... The 20minute track session pushed the tyres to their performance limit and although the race track is not what these tyres have been designed for it was good to get them up to serious temperatures... again they responded well, very well when you consider they are sports-touring tyres... they do everything you could possibly ask of them, and do it well... what's even more encouraging is the super competitive pricing... if Continental isn't the name you might instantly think of when you're in the market for some new sports-touring rubber, maybe it's time that it is"
